This is how you put on your silk corset correctly:
- First, undo the laces until there is a four inch gap between the edges of the corset.
- Lift your bust up to give the cleavage you require and hold the corset firmly in position against your bust, while your friend starts to pull. Hold onto something or s/he will pull you over! And check that the 'tongue' is lying flat under the laces.
- Your friend will then tie a knot, then go back again and work each lace individually, starting from the far end and working towards the knot, achieving more pull in and adjusting so that that the shape of the lacing is pleasing. There is no hard and fast rule, but generally speaking, the 'gap' should be a little wider at the top and over the hip than in the middle.
- Your friend re-ties the knot, and finishes with a double bow.
With some corsets, the bow can be tucked inside to avoid lumpiness if you are wearing a sheer garment on top. But frequently the corsets are worn as outer garments, when it is subtly seductive to allow the laces to show as it suggests that you could 'suddenly become undone' - or as the French put it, there is a hint of 'deshabille'!
